LifeDNA Skincare

Back in December, a new skincare called LifeDNA reached out to me about their line that recently launched. I was interested because since I've hit 30 a few years ago, my skin has been a complete mystery to me. I thought I had oily skin but my skin is actually quite dry, needs to be exfoliated often and I "most likely" have rosacea. Yes, that was the diagnosis from a dermatologist. (And yes, I'm looking for a second opinion.)

Have you done a DNA test before? I haven't but my little brother did and the results were interesting to say the least. LifeDNA works with both 23andMe and Ancestry.com or if you haven't done a test (like me!) you can just take a questionnaire from LifeDNA to see what products would work best for you.

Originally, I was only interested in the Aqua Mask because hello, mask, but LifeDNA is a system so instead, LifeDNA matched me up with the Deluxe Beauty Box. Included is a cleanser, toner and moisturizer plus a DNA-personalized serum & mask. All together, this 3-month supply (pictured) is $289 or only $19.27 per product.

The products came in a white box with instructions laid out. I ended up taking photos to learn how to use the products at first although I soon realized that the instructions are also on the back of each product too thankfully.

I was a little hesitant about having to use the products twice a day (with the exception of the mask) but I know my face needs TLC and I really should be washing it before and after bed. I rarely wear makeup so I don't have to wash off makeup at the end of the day but just the general dirt and grime of the day.

First off for me is the Blemish Soothing Cleanser. Wet your face and then apply 1 pump of product to your hand. One full pump is plenty! Then I apply it to my face and gently rub it around. The product doesn't have a fragrance which is great for those who are sensitive to smells.

Wash off with clean water and your hands. Now twice a week (I chose Wednesdays and Saturdays nights only), I apply the Ultra Hydration Aqua Mask. This is a creamy mask that goes on with a cooling sensation but again, no smell. You leave it on for 20-30 minutes but unlike another masks, this one does not harden on your face. Wash off with clean water and a gentle face cloth.

I normally need about two "scoops" of this product to cover my face. I use a spare face spatula that I had from another product and then apply to my face with my fingers.
I got a little close here with my eyebrows but I had no adverse effects.

Next is the Blemish Soothing Toner. Now you can apply this in one of two ways - either spray directly on your face or spray on a cotton pad and swipe across your face. I prefer the cotton pad approach because I feel like I'm getting my entire face. Allow to dry completing before moving onto the next step.

For me, the next product is the Ultra Hydration Aqua Serum. This is a semi-opaque product that dries clear. Again, a little goes a long way and you only need about the size of a dime. The product comes with an eye dropper to get the product out.

I rub my hands together to apply to my entire face and I'm surprised that this small amount really does cover completely. Again, allow to dry completed before your final step.

My final step is the Blemish Soothing Moisturizer. This product has a weird texture in the container and a slight smell but it goes on clear and the smell doesn't linger. I use about a nickle size amount of product that I normally grab with my finger.

You can apply makeup afterwards but I just end up walking out the door and feel complete. Going to bed with toner, serum and moisturizer has been a new process for me too but I had been trying a night product back in November, so at least the concept wasn't completely new for me.

I have been exclusively using LifeDNA since early January and have definitely noticed a difference in the condition of my face. I used to have just a very generic moisturizer that I would mix with some avocado oil but I'd still to exfoliate weekly and had some painful acne flare up from time to time.

With LifeDNA, when I use it twice a day, every day, I don't have any acne issues and the Aqua Mask leaves my face super smooth every time I use it. When I decided not to wash my face before bed a few nights in a row, I got a few acne spots on my cheeks and chin which was super frustrating but all went away with continued use of the skin care products.

LifeDNA also carries dietary supplements include one that is for those with the MTHFR gene which I know has been a hot topic in the beauty community in the past few years. You can check out all their products on their website.
