Cheeky Monkey Come Hither

Come Hither was an awkward color for me in the bottle.  It looks black, or even espresso brown, but when I put it on my nail wheel, I totally saw red.  Yes, red creme.  Cheeky's website describes it as black plum, so black purple?  Either way, I knew I needed to try it on.

I used Cheeky Monkey Wet Dream for my base and started with 2 coats of Come Hither.  However, I wasn't totally happy with it application with 2 so on my index and middle fingers, I put 3 coats.  I did not use a top coat, since this stuff was pretty lethal without it (shiny wise).

I guess I can see the whole black plum thing now - but this was only in the "sunlight" (which for me is cloudy with a bit of sun right now).  It was easier to see the "plum" with 3 coats, but it was definitely more reddish purple with 2 coats.  In the shade, this color was just super dark - I'd like to wear it during the day.

Cheeky Monkey Hot Slut

Check out that rain!  I even got some on the bottle cap.  Well despite the flash flood warnings and the tornado watches, I must continue to swatch!  I ended up purchasing the entire Cheeky Monkey line of polish, mostly because I absolutely wanted to try them all.  When the box arrived, I pulled them all out and arranged them on my shelf, and well, like the ditty that she is, Hot Slut caught my eye.

Cheeky's website calls Hot Slut a "soft red with blue".  I personally didn't see the blue, but this was a HOT red for me.  In fact, I liked it so much that I wore it for THREE days, which is almost a record for me - well, it is a record for a red for me.  (Purple still holds my "one week" manicure record.)  The application on this color was awesome - so much pigment in just one coat.  I used Cheeky Monkey Wet Dream for my base, and just to be consistant, I used 2 coats of Hot Slut, and a top coat of Seche Vite.

Maybe I do see the blue?  Either way, I love this color.  It's my new favorite red.  I also grabbed a picture under my porch.

This red is ALMOST a jelly when you add the top coat, but it's really a creme.  It was almost cherry tomato red in my eyes, but either way, it was freaking awesome.

Piggy Polish Pink for Yourself!

Piggy Polish [official website] is also a new brand to me - they market their polish mainly for pedicures, but their website says you can also wear it for manicures.  I'm not about to show you my feet, so I used it as a manicure.  ^_^


I used Seche Natural as my base, just one coat of Pink for Yourself! and a top coat of Seche Vite.  I was impressed by the pigment and smoothness of the formula.  This isn't a neon pink, but a deeper "Barbie" pink.  It is definitely a creme though - no shimmer to it. It reminded me of a China Glaze color but I didn't take a comparison.  As you can tell a bit in my picture, we were in for a LOT of rain.

All bottles come with a tiny toe ring made from beads with a little foam flower on it - totally cute!  It's definitely a toe ring but if you had tiny hands (I don't) it may fit on your thumb or pinkie.  Very cute!

Book Mention!

My nail polish collection is now featured in this book "Anthology: A Collection of Collections" by San Antonio artist, Brittany Gates.  I'm going to buy my own copy soon and if I can get up there to see the exhibit next month, I'll be sure to take pictures.  I'm excited to be published for my obsession!

Color Club Mrs. Robinson vs China Glaze Purple Panic

Are you seeing double?  Sure looks like it.  As soon as I put on Color Club "Mrs. Robinson" I was thinking "Hey, I have this color."  Introducing China Glaze Purple Panic from the INK collection - a purple neon...


I used Seche Natural for my base, and 2 coats of each polish to stay consistent.  I did not use a top coat to keep the matte look of the neon polish.

Oddly enough, on the nail, you can actually tell this is two different colors, but just slightly.  Mrs. Robinson has a darker purple hue to it and slight more red, where Purple Panic is lighter with more blue in it.  I showed a friend my hand, and he instantly knew they were different colors, so while these are totally related, they aren't complete duplicates.

Color Club Mrs. Robinson

Color Club Mrs. Robinson was from their Poptastic collection, and was a purple neon that reminded me of something else, but I'll leave that to another post.  I've been kind of hit or miss with my Color Club colors, but I figured that overall, I've been happy with the pigmentation most of all and the formulas have worked for me in the end (with some clean up).


I used Seche Natural for my base, and 2 coats of Mrs. Robinson.  I let it dry matte, and didn't add a top coat (gasp!) to show off the neon of this purple.

Pretty simple.  My shade picture played tricks with the camera, as you can see below:

 Talk about a nice color for summer.  ^_^

CND Gold Sparkle

I received this CND effect to review and I was pretty excited to check out how this would work.  In the bottle, it almost looked like flakies, which is my new obsession.  I used a base coat of Seche Natural, one coat of CND colour Blackjack as my colour and topped it with Gold Sparkle.

As you can see in the sun, Gold Sparkle was almost a flakie, but not quite.  It reminded me more of sugar crystals - but it really lightened up the black, which I enjoyed.  I'm still scared of full black nail polish - reminds me of those goth days.

It's a little harder to see in the shade, but this almost reminded me of China Glaze Fortune Teller (but with gold instead of orange).  In just one coat, the Gold Sparkle completely covered the nail - not making the nail opaque, but giving great, even coverage.  I'm excited to try this color over other colors (colours) as well.

CND Blackjack

I'm still getting my feet wet with the CND line.  I feel like I would benefit the most from the Effects line, because of the versatility, but before you have an Effect, you have to have a Colour.  I (not to terribly) recently purchased 3 CND Colours, and today I tried Blackjack.  Because I'm an idiot and deleted my camera pictures before copying them to my computer, I don't have a bottle picture anymore, but I have my sunshiney WHOA picture.

Why whoa?  Because this is BLACK.  I used Seche Natural for a base and just ONE coat of Blackjack to get this amazing creme opaque.  I was so shocked that it covered so well, so smooth, so quickly.  I didn't even use a top coat, but check out that shine!  I think this is my new black - I have two by another company, but I haven't even reviewed them yet, and I'm already calling this an easy winner.  I'm also sold on the bottle design - where most people would be upset about all that extra glass (empty space), I love how it in cases the polish.  Then again, I'm random like that.  I would definitely pick up Blackjack if you're looking for a great black to cover in one coat, and cover it well.

Piggy Paint Project Earth

Piggy Paint is a new brand to me, designed with kids in mind.  On April 1st, they released their "Project Earth" line, and sent me a sample to review (upcoming post).

Piggy Paint "Solar Power"

Piggy Paint "Solar Power" was one of the neons from their Project Earth collection which is suited towards tweens.  If you have little girls, I really do recommend this polish since it is so free of chemicals.  Included in my box was a business card with the following instructions for wear:


Application Instructions
* Wash hands with soap and water.
*Apply 2-3 thin coats of Piggy Paint.
*Air dry 60 seconds
*For maximum chip resistance, blow dry polished nails for 1-2 minutes with hair dryer set on warm heat/low blower setting.


I almost wished they hadn't sent me a yellow, since yellows are the hardest colors to wear and make opaque, but I am working with what I have.  The first thing that stuck out to me was the fact that I loved this brush:

It wasn't too flat or round, all the bristles worked so well in harmony.  I was able to accurately get polish where I wanted it, without the brush getting bald spots or having polish run into my cuticles.  I did follow the instructions to the letter (no base coat, gasp!) especially since I wanted to see what they were working with.


Again, I can't really comment on the formula, but for a yellow, it wasn't too bad.  Here is in the shade, 2 coats:

You can definitely see a lot of VNL but for little girls and tweens, I don't see that being too big of a problem - hey we used highlighters to paint our nails when we were that young!

Then I added one more thin coat to see if that would make a difference:

To me, 3 coats just showed the matte more (as neons dry as a matte).  However, I was ultimately pleased with the formula and would like to purchase a few more colors to see if they also hold up.  I also want to check staining since they claim to be "Natural as Mud: non-toxic, odorless, kid-friendly."


Piggy Paint also sent me their Radioactive (glow in the dark) polish but that's a bit hard to photograph in the sun ^_^  I will attempt to get a night posting in.
