China Glaze Shadies & Gentlemen

Press Sample

This summer when I got to see the preview of China Glaze's Halloween Collection called "Paint It Black", I was most stoked for this beautiful matte black called Shadies and Gentlemen. It looked just like an untouched chalkboard and I was obsessed.

I first attempted my manicure with my go to base coat, Morgan Taylor React Max Optical Brightener but it made my polish pull up and look super chalky. Next I tried the "sticky" base coat from Glisten & Glow (green bottle), but had the same issue. Considering I wouldn't be top coating this polish anyway, I went for just bare nail (the horrors!). However, that was the trick for me. Two thin coats, trying not to have too many brush strokes and I got my beautiful matte.

Look at that lovely chalkboard. One trick I've used over the years to make your matte manicures last is to add a glossy top coat and then one final coat of polish. This way when it chips, it chips down to glossy top coat, not down to your nail.

With Halloween falling on Wednesday this year, you still have time to run to Sally's and grab this shade before it flies away.
