Zoya Mask

Not going to lie, I'm not a fan of Halloween.  In fact, we skipped it this year completely.  Oops.  (Okay, not oops... I lost 16 pounds this month and so I'm staying far, far away from candy.)

BUT I did have a Halloween manicure (to come!) and I did a mask for the Zoya Blog shopping spree!

I took some crafting scrapbooking paper and then took Zoya Nail Polish and used it to embellished the mask - Carrie Ann, Edyta and Julieanne in the swirls and leaves.  Yay!  Hah.  The mask smelled like nail polish but I can deal.

Blogs of Note

Boo!  Happy Halloween Sunday!  Here are 3 more blogs for you.
First today is Nails Beautiqued.  Unlike most of the blogs I read, she is an actual licensed nail technician.  She has a feature called "Blue Monday" where she features a new blue polish on Mondays.  She has long nails with great cuticles if I do say so myself.

Next up is Never Too Much Glitter.  This is another of my original blogs that I followed before I started Polish Galore.  Most of her polishes (if not all) are frankened and she also has a Etsy shop where she sells fake nails with her designs and colors.  She does live in Japan, so there will be extra for shipping.  She uses fake nails herself that are short and slightly squared which I believe is the style in Japan, but don't quote me on that one.

Finally today is Phresh Mentality.  She has short to medium nails and does feature a lot of nail art.  Additionally, she does offer nail polish painting parties but she's located in the UK (Surrey/London area) so that's a bit out of the way for me personally.

Enjoy and don't eat too much candy!

China Glaze Mrs. Claus

Here's another red from the 2010 Winter collection from China Glaze - Mrs. Claus.  It's listed as just a "red glitter" but to me, this isn't a "red glitter" like Ruby Pumps.  Instead, this is a pink base with pinkish glitter... quite different!  It's weird that the bottle looks very red, but on the nail, it's different.

I used a base coat of Seche Natural, 2 coats of Mrs. Claus and a top of Seche Vite.  I noted that while the first coat was quite sheer, the second coat went on well - although a bit thick.  Maybe it's because I tried to make it thicker?  Not sure.  It reminded me a lot of the "Specialty" collection that came out last summer - almost like Pom Pom.

Here it is in the sun, and you can see just a bit of VNL on the middle finger.  It's very much a pink instead of a red as you can see here.

In the shade, it almost looks like a silver foil.  Being a glitter, this is a pain in the butt to remove, but it's worth it.  ^_^

Rescue Beauty Lounge Sale!

It's (almost) here!  Email from Ji at Rescue Beauty Lounge

Last year's 5-hour 50% off sale resulted in literally thousands of orders, 10 straight days of round-the-clock packing and shipping (during a blizzard, no less!), employees threatening mutiny and more than enough frantic emails to short-circuit the Apple store.
Rescue Beauty Nail Polish
So why am I preparing to go through this all over again, beginning at 11:00 am – 4:00 pm on November 1, 2010 EST.

Why, because I love you, my crazy polish-heads. I swear, this will be the only time you ever catch me in sneakers, just to keep up with the demand

But I do ask that you follow my glamorous Do's and Don'ts...
  1. Do stock up on your favorite Rescue Beauty Lounge polishes and body products (you asked, we listened!). And while you may purchase the new Real Housewives of the Tudor Dynasty colors, they will NOT be marked down during the sale.
  2. Don't be fooled by a stray “Free Shipping” banner you may spy on the site. During this special event, you will be charged for shipping. C'mon, I'm already giving you a 50% discount!
  3. Do double-check your order before you purchase. We cannot edit, change or combine orders. And don't go looking for the “customer notes” on your order form. It does not exist during the mayhem that is this sale.
  4. Do a practice run a few days before the sale to make sure you have the correct email address and log-in information and get familiar with how the site works. Don't leave anything in your basket as they will be emptied a minute before the sale so we will have an accurate inventory of what is in stock.
  5. Don't call us (or show up at the door). If you must email us, please do so ONLY to customerservice@rescuebeauty.com and not to any other email addresses. We'll post something on our Facebook page if there are any technical difficulties. Do feel free to leave any raves there too.
  6. Do make a wish-list ahead of time along with some alternatives in case something is sold out.
  7. Don't beg, plead or wheedle. Sold out means just that—we don't have a secret stash in the back room.
  8. Do be patient with deliveries. We ship on a first come, first served basis. Allow approximately 10 to 15 business days for domestic orders, and 20-30 for international before you get panicked. (Again, check our facebook page for frequent updates). If you really need your "Frugalista" in a hurry, choose overnight or 2nd day shipping.
  9. Don't forget that Rescue Beauty Lounge polishes make amazing holiday gifts. Stock up on stocking stuffers!
  10. Do check back during the sale as some shoppers will fill their baskets in a frenzy but not buy everything. Don't hoard if you have no intension of purchasing everything in your basket.
  11. Don't forget to use (FIFTYOFF) at checkout, otherwise you will NOT get the 50% discount.
  12. Do have your MasterCard, Visa or American Express card warmed up and ready to go!
That should do it! Now I’m off to bribe (lie to) my wary employees with promises of trips to Bali, holiday bonuses redeemable at Harry Winston, and rumors that packing boxes for hours on end actually eliminates wrinkles and reduces cellulite.

I’ve gotta go rest up.

As always, Ji

China Glaze Phat Santa

Hey it's another China Glaze 2010 Winter Collection red!  I was a tiny bit overwhelmed by having 4 reds but at the same time, they are all different.  Phat Santa is listed as a red creme, but it applied really nice and squishy like a jelly.  Good formula, but there was some VNL.

I used a base of Seche Natural, 2 coats of Phat Santa, and a top of Seche Vite.  Squishy red coming up!

In the sun you can see my smile line (the white part of my nail) on my middle finger and pinkie.  My pinkie had a trama so I had a little bit of blood seeped under my smile line, which you can see here.  You can eliminate VNL by using a nude base color for your nails, or for a bright pop, a coat of white underneath.

SQUISH!  In the shade, this color isn't as jelly like but still very smooth.  I did not receive Ruby Deer to review, but will be purchasing one, but apparently Phat Santa is a shade darker.  -squishy-  Heh.

China Glaze Mommy Kissing Santa

Mmmm reds.  I do love reds.  I didn't think I loved reds until I started wearing reds.  There's something about red.  Mommy Kissing Santa is one of a few reds from the new 'Tis the Season, also called "Naughty or Nice" China Glaze 2010 Winter Collection.  It reminds me of a big shiny red Christmas ornament.  I have to stop taking my pictures so late in the day - check out that 5 o'clock shadow.

I used a base coat of Seche Natural, 2 coats of Mommy Kissing Santa, and a top of Seche Vite.  It's a very nice dark red shimmer.  Very nice formula - not runny or thick.

In the sun you can see that it almost looks two toned but that's just my sun fading away.  It was such a pleasant color to apply - very smooth formula.

In the shade it has such a smooth finish as well - like velvet or something.  I really think this is a great color to wear for your Holiday Party or just even in the spring.  Very happy with this one.  I know it's not terrible original, but I can't think off hand of its dupe right now.

China Glaze Sugar Plums

Oh geez, I absolutely love this color.  China Glaze Sugar Plums from the 'Tis the Season to be naughty and nice collection (okay seriously? Longest name ever....) is listed simply as a plum shimmer but this is nothing but simple.  Along the same lines of Grape Crush and Crystal Ball, this is a color with tons of tiny multiglitter, but isn't a holo.  Actually, I'd LOVE for someone to do a Sugar Plums/Crystal Ball comparison!  Anyway back to this.

I used a base of Seche Natural, 2 coats of Sugar Plums and a top coat of Seche Vite.  I absolutely love this color and really didn't want to take it off.  The formula was excellent and it was so super shiny.

Rawr - look at that dark plum goodness.  In the sun, you don't see the glitter as much but it's just a nice vampy color.

Sadly the glitter is pretty gone in the shade as well but hold up, I got a sunny blurry shot.

BAM!  Multicolored goodness.  Mmmm.  Love it!  This is a must have color for me - have you picked up yours yet?

Barielle Unraveled Rust

Howdy!  Sorry for my break - I have a huge bunch of polish to post including the rest of this Barielle fall collection "Style in Argyle."  Worst part is I have the pictures, I just need to edit and write the posts.  Rawr!

This interesting color here is Unraveled Rust.  Despite this weird yellow bottle color, this is actually a burnt rust creme, and you'll be able to tell better in the other pictures.  I'm not sure why it shows up so yellow here - I even double checked my bottles to make sure I didn't mess up the pictures!  I used a base of Seche Natural, 2 coats of Unraveled Rust and a top of Seche Vite.  I did have a wonky brush on this bottle (boo) and I noticed that the formula was a little on the thick side.  I needed quite a bit of cleanup afterwards.

Two different sun pictures here - you can see some of that weird yellow in the bottle, then a muddied brown rust color in the second picture and more of a darker red brown in the first.  This is definitely a unique color.

In the shade, it's a very dark rust brown color - like I said, very unique.  I can't think of another color I have like this in my collection but I'm going to keep looking.  I was very impressed with the uniqueness of this color.  UNIQUE.  ^_^

Barielle retails for $8/bottle.

Blogs of Note

Happy Sunday!  Here are 3 more blogs for you to check out!
First up is Magic Maid.  She has medium length nails and includes a list of contests and giveaways of her fellow bloggers on her site.  She includes a lot of polishes that I haven't been able to find, which is great because it helps in blind purchasing online.

Next is Temptalia.  Blog owner Christine mainly review makeup but includes nail polish as well.  The majority of her blog is M.A.C. related but she is the absolute go to blog for all new releases, as she is privileged to getting the information or products first.  She has been blogging for at least 4 years that I know of, and has several postings a day, so I recommend using your RSS feed for sure on this one.  She has medium length nails and while I don't absolutely love her nail polish technique of 3 strokes (doesn't always get into the sides), she does always have completely accurate colored and clear pictures.

Last today is Nail of the Day.  My personal friend Cassie is the owner and she is just starting out.  However, she has a big love of polish especially after making several purchases that I had egged her on getting.

Enjoy!
